Garden · From scratch
How we started our no-dig garden in southern Chile: bed design, living soil, seasonal sowing and the first-year mistakes included.

This is the course we wish we had started with. It walks step by step through how we built our garden in Puerto Montt without tilling: from choosing the spot and building the first beds to the first winter harvest.
It is not a theory course. Every lesson was filmed on the farm, in the matching season, and also shows what went wrong: the first-year slugs, the cardboard that blew away and the bed that flooded.
Why no-dig: soil as a living organism
Choosing the spot: sun, wind and water in the south
Materials: cardboard, compost and mulch
Building the first bed
Compost: how much, which and from where
Sowing calendar for Los Lagos and Aysén
Starting seedlings at home
Transplanting and first direct sowing
Watering with and without rain
Slugs, birds and other visitors
Continuous harvest and resowing
What we would do differently: first-year mistakes

No. Most courses are marked "From scratch" and start with the basics. Intermediate courses say so on their page and assume you already keep a garden or animals at home.
